Mike is the corporate president of Benchmark Land Surveying, Inc. and has over 19 years of experience in the in the field of land surveying. He began surveying as a technician for a private surveying firm in Klamath Falls, Oregon while attending the Oregon Institute of Technology. In 1997 he received his Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT) certificate. Mike and his wife, Shannon moved to John Day in 1998 when Mike was offered a full time position with the surveying firm Bagett, Griffith and Blackman. In 2002 Mike received his Professional Land Surveyor’s license. That same year he was offered a corporate partnership with the firm as well as the position of Deputy Grant County Surveyor.
Mike was elected to the position of Grant County Surveyor in 2008. He was reelected in 2012 and again in 2016. Along with performing the duties of County Surveyor, Mike also maintains the County Surveyor’s website.
Mike lives in Prairie City with his wife Shannon and two kids: Nick and Emily. He is an avid archer who enjoys shooting and hunting with traditional archery equipment. He also enjoys time spent with his family and volunteers as a 4H archery instructor and Hunter’s Education instructor.
Benchmark Land Surveying, Inc. was established in 2009 when the John Day and Baker City branches of the firm Bagett, Griffith and Blackman, Inc. were purchased by Mike Springer and Jason Hatfield. Mike and Jason were former employees of Bagett, Griffith and Blackman for 11 years and 6 years, respectively.

Jason is the corporate secretary and co-founder of Benchmark Land Surveying and manages the firm’s Baker City office. He has been working in the field of land surveying since 2002, and was licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor in 2007. Jason holds an Associate of Applied Science degree in Forest Resource Technology from Central Oregon Community College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Engineering from Oregon State University. He began his surveying career in 2002 with the John Day office of the firm Bagett, Griffith and Blackman, Inc. He briefly left the company in 2005, but returned in 2006 to his former position and remained with the company until the purchase of the John Day and Baker City offices in January of 2009.
Jason has served as Deputy Grant County Surveyor since 2009, and was elected Wheeler County Surveyor in 2016. He served on the city council for Canyon City from 2012 to 2016, served on the Forest Resources Advisory Committee for Central Oregon Community College and served as a member of the Geomatics Search Committee for the O.S.U. College of Forestry.
In his spare time, Jason enjoys a variety of outdoor activities and spending time with his wife Sarah and their three sons Eithen, Brandon and Micah.
